GP Europa MotoGP: the world championship in mir’s hands

The young Suzuki driver managed to certify, with a clear victory, the primacy in the standings.
Joan Mir with yesterday’s success averted the possibility that she could eventually graduate champion without a win, and certainly took a weight off.
The Spaniard and his compatriot teammate Alex Rins,coming first and second, put a stamp on suzuki’s season, undoubtedly eleviousing it to the state of the most competitive of motorcycles, the most effective and the most constant. And the world championship has turned. Yet it seemed that for Ducati, especially given the trials of Jack Miller and Johann Zarco,there had been a certain glimmer of light in the dark.

The European GP on the Valencia circuit was curious, with the tests held with the track always wet and the race in dry track conditions. The starting grid seemed for this liar, as if we had to expect the protagonists, who were mired in trial, to eat those of the first rows within a few laps. But that was not the case: those who left in front, came in front. Pol Espargaro, who started from pole, still finished third.
In Valencia the race was finally the mirror of the ranking and the merciless image of those in confusion. So, yesterday, two races from the end, the real face of those who deserved less the upper floors came out brutally: Fabio Quartararo, from too many races perched in that castle built largely at the beginning of the season and then preserved thanks to the dispersion of points, now sees the possibility of final victory move away. It is he, the French man, who was thrown out of the tower.

Yamaha is in crisis, inthe wet it does not go, it is un reliable and sports management now looks like a grotesque carnival. On the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, with Maverick Viñales forced to leave Pit-Lane for changing the sixth engine of the season and with Quartararo on the ground during the first lap, there is little point in returning Valentino Rossi, hung by electric bore bore after only five laps. Morbidelli,penalized by an unhappy choice of tires, will arrive eleventh.
A tragedy… and even in Borgo Panigale you don’t smile. For Ducati a colorless race, mirror of the limits of the Desmosedici GP20 towards the competition. Jack Miller’s sixth place, always far from the first, is the image of an honest race, faced by the driver with the utmost commitment, and this also applies to others: we have got to where it was possible to get, sorry but it is so.

Andrea Dovizioso’s eighth place still puts the forlivese among the papabili for the final victory but the chances seem reduced to the pure game of arithmetic. Petrucci like him fights like a lion in the rear, but collects a measly tenth place. Bagnaia, under tone from some races, taste the gravel of turn 2 on the sixth lap. Johann Zarco’s race was good for the first half, but then retreated to 9th place under the checkered flag. Tito Rabat is consistently non-existent.

Too little… the technical limits,even towards ktm drivers are evident and now they are also evident towards those of Honda. What changed after yesterday’s race? The most glaring aspect is that we can no longer hope for the dispersion of points and that the situation is firmly in the hands of those who, until the eve of yesterday’s race, despite being first in the standings, were still considered an outsider. So, two grand prix from the end to be held in the next two weeks, the world championship seems increasinglyin the hands of Suzuki and Joan Mir – the combination that – on tiptoe – he managed to put on a stronghold that will be difficult to attack.
Mir now has a 37-point lead over Quartararo and the team comagno, paired in second place, 41 on Viñales and 45 on the Italian pair formed by Andrea Dovizioso and Franco Morbidelli.
But there’s more: Joan Mir learned to win –and that was the only thing she missed.

The good news of the Valencian weekend for Ducati is that Enea Bastianiniand Luca Marini , who will rideteam Esponsorama’s Ducati in 2021,are overwhelmingly back in the running for the final victory in the Moto2 World Championship. Thanks to the fall of Sam Lowes, on the day of Marco Bezzecchi’s first success, Enea returns first in the standings and Luca third, decisively reducing the detachment from the top.
So, in addition to being happy to greet the promotion in the top category two other promising guys who will go to bake the Italian patrol, there is a good chance that one of them will do it as World Champion.
